Vintage Serizawa Keisuke Noren
$130.00
“Noren” (entrance curtain) designed by master Serizawa Keisuke (1895-1984), a leading member of the “Mingei” movement in Japan, in the 1920’s and 30’s. Mingei is roughly translated as “folk craft,” and the movement was founded by art critic and philosopher Yanagi Soetsu who rediscovered and promoted a new appreciation for ordinary, functional crafts.
On this noren, Serizawa cleverly designed another noren made of ropes. The bottom left is his signature/logo.
