Personalized Tea Towels with Katazome
Better Than Jam
20 Grattan St. Brooklyn, NY 11206
2 min walk from Morgan Stop on L-train
Katazome is a Japanese traditional pattern-dyeing technique using hand-cut stencils. We look at vintage stencils made of persimmon-dyed mulberry paper, introduce contemporary tools from Japan, and share the basic skills of how to use them.
You dye tea towels made of Japanese "tenugui" cotton fabric with Yamato Indigo Dye bath; cut your initials, simple logos, or designs on the plastic katazome paper; and print them with discharge paste. You will go home with a set of 2 tea towels.
All materials are included in the price.
Please wear something you don’t mind getting messy with indigo.
*This program is also available as a private workshop with minimum 4 seats. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule.
