Zokin

Zōkin simply means "cleaning cloth" in Japanese. Traditionally, people—mostly women—would repurpose worn-out clothes and futon covers by cutting them into square pieces and hand-stitching them together to create stacks of zōkin. These cloths were then saved for later use in cleaning.
The zōkin we’ve sourced come from rural areas of Japan and remain unused. Each piece carries its own story—random fabric scraps stitched together using sashiko embroidery, resulting in an unintended yet beautiful design. These unique textiles make wonderful table mats or decorative accents for a table or dresser.
