Urushi Mixing Stick
$130.00
This exceptionally rare vintage wooden stick was used by urushi artisans to mix a bucket of lacquer. Salvaged from the Hokuriku region, one of the major areas in Japan known for centuries of lacquerware production, the stick may be as old as early 20th century and was in use for many decades. It has multiple layers of dried lacquer and patina, with the unique aura and accidental beauty of tactile tools. The mixing stick shares a powerful aesthetic also found in some abstract paintings by artists from post-war Japan. A great addition for the wall in a modern style interior.
