This lightweight shawl features a dense geometric design in dark gray, woven using the sakiori technique by HAJIME SHOJI. Crafted from repurposed vintage Oshima tsumugi and kimonos, this piece highlights the exquisite craftsmanship of Amami Oshima’s 1,300-year-old silk weaving tradition.
In sakiori, old fabrics are carefully washed, torn into strips, and woven together with new silk threads, resulting in a strong yet supple textile. Tadaaki Hajime, an eighth-generation artisan, leads the creation of this shawl, blending time-honored techniques with modern design. The result is a luxurious piece that offers the rich texture and softness of silk, making it a versatile and elegant addition to any wardrobe.
