Shibuichi Urushi Bowl

Shibuichi takes its name from a silver-copper alloy historically used in Japanese metalwork. In lacquerware, the technique recreates that metallic quality by mixing urushi lacquer with tin powder and charcoal, producing a finish with an unusual depth—part silver, part shadow, shifting subtly in the light.
This bowl is made by MEGURU in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture, drawing on a lacquer tradition that stretches back centuries. The shibuichi finish gives it a presence that is harder to categorize than a straightforward lacquer: cool, textured, almost mineral.
It is well suited for serving or display, and like all urushi pieces, its surface will develop further character with continued use.
