Fuki Urushi Bowl (Black)

$165.00

Fuki-urushi is a lacquering technique built on patience: layers of natural urushi are applied to the wood, then carefully wiped back, each pass deepening the finish while letting the grain of the wood show through. The result is a surface that is both protected and revealed.

This bowl is made by MEGURU, a lacquerware studio based in the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture—an area with a lacquer tradition spanning centuries. Aizu urushi is known for its depth and durability, and MEGURU’s work brings that tradition into a contemporary form.

In black, the bowl has a quiet elegance: the natural wood grain reads as a subtle texture beneath the lacquer, catching light differently depending on the angle. Suitable for daily use or as a considered object on its own.
