Shibuichi Urushi Plate

The shibuichi finish on this plate produces a surface reminiscent of the silver-copper alloy it’s named for. MEGURU achieves this by blending urushi lacquer with tin powder and charcoal—a technique rooted in the Aizu lacquerware tradition of Fukushima Prefecture.

The result has an understated complexity: a cool, metallic quality that shifts depending on light and angle, set against the natural warmth of the wood beneath. Each plate carries slight variations, a consequence of the handmade process.

Practical for serving and equally compelling as a standalone object on a shelf or table.
